Sociology of the Macro and Micro
By Satya Priya
Today there are two main approaches to studying
sociology. The first is macro-sociology, or the study of society as a whole.
This approach emphasizes the analysis of social systems and populations on a
large scale and at a high level of theoretical abstraction. Macro-sociology
does concern individuals, families, and other aspects of society, but it always
does so in relation to the larger social system to which they belong.
The second approach is micro-sociology, or the
study of small group behavior. This approach focuses on the nature of everyday
human social interactions on a small scale. At the micro level, social status
and social roles are the most important components of social structure and
micro-sociology is based on the ongoing interactions between these social
roles.
Micro theories
examine the process of face to face contact among individuals and personal
points of view in society. The human behavior is based on the individuals’
interpretation on a situation and the meaning they give. and how the individual
interact.
Whereas the macro theories deal with large scale social events of society
meaning things that have public concern. Macro sociology theory sees society as
working together as a whole. They use an organic analogy by comparing society
to human body, by looking the bodily organs in relation to how they work
together as a whole. The emphasis is to put on function interdependence
consensus, social order and primary and secondary socialization.
The theories are apart of the micro level symbolic interaction is
dramaturgy ethno methodology and exchange theory. Symbolic interaction is an
individual based theory that uses constructed symbols such as gestures and
language to which people give meaning in their everyday interaction.
War is conflict, between
relatively large groups of people, which involves physical force inflicted by
the use of weapons. It is contrasted with peace.
The sociology of war comes in
both political and historical sociology. Since, war is one of the most
important policies that a state can pursue and have often shaped both the
formation and dissolution of states. This war is mostly concerned with both its
causes and its consequences.
The micro-objective deals with the individual
trends of interaction and behavior; whereas micro-subjectivity is what people
think, do and belief based on their own experiences
Try to combine the micro and macro theories into
one ultimate sociological theory. A better explanation for this is like ice
cream. Some people like chocolate mint chip, and others like strawberry sorbet;
however, putting these to flavors together will not have a great taste as the
two do alone, this is the dilemma that sociologists want to overcome.
