My Transformation

By  Nagasen Sraman
Many people have their own way of transformations. Relating the story of my transformation would take back to early childhood memories. I was brought up in multi cultural societies. Of course, many of my neighbors are Muslims.
I was born in a Buddhist family, but I knew nothing about Buddhism. I would see my mom got up early morning and would offer water and candle to the Buddha image which was enshrined on the altar. Sometime, my mom shouted at me if didn’t offer flowers and candles.
I still can remember what I would fell when mom would read the mediation on death. I was afraid of death whenever I would hear my mom reciting that stanza.
Whenever, there was Hindu festival I would join those ceremonies. I used to worship those Hindu goddess same as I did to Buddha. Of course, by that time I totally didn’t know the difference between religions. Forgetting, the differences I would enjoy every activities.
One day, my brother who was studying in city decided to make me novice and thought that I would be able to learn Buddhism. I was happy to hear and got my ordination at very young age. I learned whatever I was taught and followed many meditation retreat courses.
Thereby, I could notice transformation taking place in me. I could meditate one hour long at length. Even, I had experience more from meditation practice.
Finally, my transformation took place when I came to Sri Lanka and learnt much about Buddhism. Then, I can call myself totally a Buddhist without any doubts. My transformation made me to understand compassion and love and etc should be developed towards living beings.
