Knowing one’s own tradition is very important for building the life successfully. Every tradition is different than other tradition. One can build a good relationship, understanding and respecting other tradition too.
In my tradition, there is a mixture of both the Buddhist and Hindu tradition. We as Buddhist have ritual and other traditional activities. For, example during the wedding day bright and bright groom are brought to temple. They will be blessed by monks by chatting and sprinkling the water.
The next thing is done on the stage. A person who conducts the marriage ceremony is invited on that day. He advises the bride by quoting the ten advices given to Vishaka on her marriage day 2500 years back.
So, one can be successful by following the ‘Buddhist path to success’. For example as our ajarn mentioned that a Buddhist should marry a Buddhist girl. Then, they will have mutual understanding. They can follow the tradition easy way. On the other hand, if one Buddhist man marries a Muslim girl then they will have difficulties regarding the faith and tradition. This is very true.
One may face difficulties mixing with other tradition. As ajarn also related the story of Venerable Buddha Rakkhita how he experienced his new life being monk in Uganda. And explained three things one may come across while following a new way of life. They are: (i) Hatred (ii) Laugh at (iii) Acceptance
In many of the circumstances we may hate by others. One may experience this while working in office or in society or in intuitions. Secondly, he is laughed at. Finally, he will be accepted by them.
From the above example we can say that people take time to be friend and to consider it. But one should never give up being successful in life. Therefore, one should be patience and exercise compassion. We must also remember the Buddha’s word ‘one should to the work which his beneficial for oneself and others.
